Cypress Point Hires OCM, Ogilvy's Design Firm, After Coore-Crenshaw

Cypress Point Club, one of American golf's most exclusive courses, has quietly brought in the Australian design firm OCM to lead its ongoing design and renovation work, succeeding Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who had served as the club's architects of record for more than a decade.

Who runs OCM?

OCM stands for Ogilvy, Cocking and Mead. Geoff Ogilvy won the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot and eight PGA Tour titles during his playing career. Mike Cocking, a former Australian amateur competitor with an engineering degree, and Ashley Mead, who came from a turf and golf course superintendent background, have worked together for more than 25 years. The three formed the firm in 2010 alongside architect Mike Clayton, who departed in 2019 to start a separate design practice.

What has OCM built its reputation on?

The firm's early projects were renovations in Australia, including work at Victoria Golf Club and the short course at Kingston Heath. Its redesign of the composite Peninsula Kingswood course, where Cocking had been a longtime member, is scheduled to host the 2027 Australian Open. OCM's first major U.S. commission came at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, a recommendation that came from Crenshaw himself when his own firm's schedule was full.

What is OCM's connection to the Presidents Cup?

OCM's renovation of Medinah's Course No. 3, which reopened in 2024, reworked the closing six holes around Lake Kadijah after the club sought a full-scale transformation. Medinah is hosting the Presidents Cup this week, with Ogilvy serving as the International team's captain.

OCM's client list has also grown to include Luling in Texas, The Stanwich Club in Connecticut, and Piedmont Driving Club, Druid Hills and Fall Line in Georgia. Developer Mark Haugejorde, who worked with the firm on Tepetonka, said the appeal of a three-person design team was straightforward.
