Dan Brown, JC Ritchie Withdraw From BMW PGA Championship

Dan Brown and JC Ritchie both withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship on Thursday, ending their opening rounds early with injuries at Wentworth Club.

Why did Dan Brown withdraw?

Brown, a two-time DP World Tour winner who claimed the 2025 BMW International Open, was making his first start since leaving the British Masters last month with wrist pain. He had planned to get an injection and play the Irish Open before instead taking that week off. The Englishman was 10-over par through 15 holes at Wentworth, with three bogeys, two doubles and a triple, when he was listed as a retirement. The wrist issue threatens his rookie PGA Tour season; Brown currently sits 142nd in the FedExCup standings, outside the top 125 who retain conditional status when the eight-event FedExCup Fall ends. His next start is roughly two weeks away because of the Presidents Cup break.

What happened with JC Ritchie?

Ritchie, an 11-time Sunshine Tour winner and seven-time HotelPlanner Tour winner from South Africa, withdrew after carding a five-over 77 in what was his fourth consecutive start. He said he strained his back warming up for the round. "I'll be back for the Dunhill Links," he wrote on social media. Ritchie won the HotelPlanner Tour's Road to Mallorca rankings last season.
