Fitzpatrick Brothers Target Playing Together at 2027 Ryder Cup

Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick said this week that their top priority for next season is making the 2027 European Ryder Cup team together and being paired at Adare Manor in Ireland. The brothers discussed the goal during a press conference at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews.

Why do the Fitzpatricks want to play the Ryder Cup together?

Matt, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, has made four of the last five European Ryder Cup teams. Alex has never played in one. The brothers won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans together this year, a victory that handed Alex a PGA Tour card. He went on to add five more top-10 finishes, including a tie for fourth at the Tour Championship, which also locked in his spot in all four 2027 majors.

Both players were among 15 prospective team members Donald brought to Adare Manor last month for an early look at the course that will host the 2027 Ryder Cup. Alex called the trip a factor in sharpening his focus on next September.

Where do the brothers stand in qualifying?

Matt is effectively a lock for the team barring injury, sitting behind only Rory McIlroy among European players in the world ranking. Alex's path is tougher: the top six in the European standings qualify automatically, and he will need a strong 2027 season on the PGA Tour to climb from 31st. A captain's pick remains a realistic route given his form and his chemistry with Matt.

A Ryder Cup pairing between brothers would be a rarer achievement than either has chased so far.

Matt said a Ryder Cup win alongside his brother would top even a major championship. "I think that would be as good as it gets," he said of the prospect of playing and winning Adare Manor together.

Donald is expected to finalize his captain's picks after the automatic qualifying period ends next summer, with the 2027 Ryder Cup set for Adare Manor in Ireland.
