From Amateurs to Pros: Our Incredible Day at the WM Phoenix Open Pro-Am

Playing golf with extraordinary partners can transform a regular day on the links into an unforgettable experience. Recently, a group of friends, including myself and my esteemed colleague Jessica Marksbury, had the privilege of participating in the pro-am event at the WM Phoenix Open. The endeavor allowed us to enjoy the spectacular TPC Scottsdale course while interacting with talented professionals and experiencing the thrill of the game. In this article, we share our impressions and reflect on the camaraderie, sportsmanship, and joy that golf brings to people from all walks of life.

An Exhilarating Day on the Course

As we teed off on the 10th hole, we were introduced to the professionals in our group, including the headline player Ben Kohles. Admittedly, an unknowing delay caused a humorous mix-up when we mistakenly believed that the aforementioned pro was someone else. Nonetheless, Kohles displayed genuine kindness, shaking our hands and participating in enjoyable banter.

One of our most intriguing encounters was with Jake Knapp, a talented PGA Tour rookie hailing from Southern California. We were captivated by Jake’s modern PGA Tour prototype physical presence—his surfer hair, tall stature, and marvelous swing made an immediate impression. Engaging in conversation with him, we discovered his vibrant personality and deep passion for the sport.

Friendly Banter and Remarkable Performances

Our group, comprising four amateurs, five caddies, and a walking scorer, proved to be an incredibly pleasant surprise. Each member showcased exceptional golf abilities, fostering an atmosphere devoid of pretentiousness. Throughout the round, there was not a single bad shot to be seen—our company consisted of genuinely good players whose talent was awe-inspiring.

Caddying for me, Jessica Marksbury flourished in her role—they communicated seamlessly, enabling me to make independent decisions regarding club selection and reading putts. This effortless collaboration between player and caddie allowed for a smooth experience and epitomized the spirit of ready golf.

Moments That Define the Day

Reflecting on the highlights of our round, one particular moment stands out—Jessica’s remarkable performance on the 16th hole. With immense skill, she executed a perfect tee shot, subsequently sinking a birdie putt. The natural talent displayed throughout the hole evoked a sense of admiration from both our group and the small gallery gathered in the stands. The iPhone captured this exciting achievement, etching it in our memories.

Additionally, we were in awe of our teammate Chris Fletcher, who consistently sank long putts throughout the round. It was truly incredible to witness his skill and technique firsthand. On a lighter note, we couldn’t help but appreciate the presence of Michael Loftus and Michael Kolovos, whose names added to the enjoyable camaraderie shared among the group.

The enchanting combination of beautiful weather, elevated grandstands, and the presence of an elite player made the experience truly exceptional.
