Graeme McDowell will not sign on for the rebuilt LIV Golf league, making him the 12th notable player to leave the circuit as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund steps back and new creditor BC Partners takes over shaping its future.
Why Is McDowell Leaving LIV Golf?
The 2010 US Open champion joined LIV's inaugural season in May 2022, resigning his PGA Tour membership to sign with the league. Over four years he played for the Cleeks, Smash and OKGC franchises without winning an individual title, his best finish a tie for second at LIV Golf Virginia in 2025. In a statement posted to social media, the 47-year-old Northern Irishman said he has "decided not to pursue LIV 2.0," adding he is grateful for the opportunity and is looking ahead to his next career chapter without confirming a return to the DP World Tour.
Who Else Has Left LIV Golf 2.0?
McDowell follows Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Adrian Meronk, Tom McKibbin and David Puig, who have all confirmed plans to return to Europe next season. Other exiting players, including Ian Poulter, have the option to retire or wait for a route back through senior golf. A departing player can also take a year off or compete on another tour before attempting to requalify through PGA Tour Q-School, which remains more than 12 months away.
Who Is Staying for LIV Golf 2.0?
As of now, only five players, Richard Bland, Ben Campbell, Victor Perez, Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale, have publicly committed to the league's next iteration. Reports suggest as many as 15 others have tentatively agreed to stay. The initial commitment deadline has already passed, with a hard deadline for the final roster still ahead.
