Greg Norman Says He'd Rather Just See LIV Golf End Than Fade

Greg Norman said LIV Golf's decline has become difficult to watch, telling journalist Alan Shipnuck he would rather see the circuit end outright than fade away gradually. Why was LIV's Team Championship cancelled?

LIV's 2026 season wrapped early after funding issues forced organizers to scrap the Team Championship, leaving LIV Golf Indianapolis, won by Michael La Sasso, as the circuit's final event of what is now widely called "LIV 1.0."

"I would rather just see it end," Norman said of the circuit's struggles.

Norman helped launch LIV in 2022 and served as its first commissioner and CEO before being replaced by Scott O'Neil in 2025. He remains tied to the league's early history as it faces questions about its financial backing and long-term structure heading into 2027.

Reflecting on the league's early days, Norman described the original roster as a tight-knit group bound by the ambition of building something new in professional golf, adding that the effort required to launch LIV in the face of resistance reflected genuine belief in the project rather than a short-term business play.
