Henrik Stenson Shares 36-Hole Lead at Pure Insurance Championship

Henrik Stenson shares the 36-hole lead at the Pure Insurance Championship, matching the low round of the day with a 5-under 67 at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Saturday to sit tied atop the leaderboard with Ryan Armour and Y.E. Yang.

How did Stenson build his lead?

Stenson's round included five birdies over his final 13 holes. Zach Johnson, second in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, and Steven Alker, fourth in the points race, sit one stroke behind heading into Sunday's final round.

It is the first time in six starts that Stenson has led or shared the lead after a round on PGA Tour Champions.

Why is this only Stenson's sixth start?

Stenson turned 50 on April 5, making him eligible for the Champions Tour, but he first had to finish serving a one-year PGA Tour suspension connected to his move to LIV Golf. He became eligible to play PGA Tour-sanctioned events again on Aug. 25, and his best finish since returning is a tie for 11th at the U.S. Senior Open.

The Swede won six times on the PGA Tour, including the 2016 Open Championship and the 2009 Players Championship, with his last title coming at the 2017 Wyndham Championship. He was later named European Ryder Cup captain for the 2023 matches in Italy before being stripped of the role when he left for LIV Golf in 2022. He won LIV Golf Bedminster that year but was relegated from the league after the 2025 season.

"We keep chipping away and working on things," Stenson said Saturday.

A win Sunday would make Stenson the fifth first-time winner on PGA Tour Champions this season.
