Former Tennis Star Jack Sock Reveals 135 MPH Clubhead Speed

By Staff Writer

Jack Sock won three doubles Grand Slam titles on the tennis court, but he has also built a golf game good enough to reach near-scratch, powered by clubhead speed that would turn heads on any driving range.

How fast does Jack Sock swing a golf club?

On this week's episode of GOLF's Subpar podcast, co-host Drew Stoltz revealed that Sock was clocked on Trackman a few years ago with a clubhead speed of 135 mph, a figure that would rank among the fastest on the PGA Tour.

Sock credited his tennis background for the speed. "My forehand in tennis was known for racket speed," he said, adding that he doesn't consciously try to swing hard.

Does he have trouble controlling it?

Sock acknowledged that harnessing that much speed comes with tradeoffs. He said he has worked to dial in a cut shot he can control more consistently, even as his clubhead speed remains elevated.
