Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the Open de Espana, two days before the DP World Tour event was set to begin at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, with wife Kelley due to give birth to their fourth child.
The three-time Spanish Open winner was set to headline the field on home soil for his fourth DP World Tour start of the year. The DP World Tour confirmed the withdrawal, with the couple expecting a daughter.
Why Is Rahm Pulling Out?
Rahm had flagged the due date earlier this year when asked about the rest of his 2026 season. He said the birth is "always going to be higher than anything else," regardless of how his golf goes.
The withdrawal comes after a rough showing at the BMW PGA Championship, where Rahm finished 11-over par across 36 holes at Wentworth and missed the cut by a wide margin.
What Does This Mean for His DP World Tour Commitment?
Rahm agreed a conditional release with the DP World Tour in May that lets him keep playing LIV Golf events without accruing fines, in exchange for a reduced schedule of five tour starts rather than six. He has played three so far this year — the Scottish Open, Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship — leaving two more to fulfill. He is expected to make up the difference at the DP World Tour's November Play-Offs, the Abu Dhabi Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
Rahm's longer-term LIV Golf future also remains unresolved. He is reportedly still owed as much as $150 million from his original LIV contract and has not said when, or whether, he will address his next move before the current season ends.
The Open de Espana field goes on without him, led by Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed alongside Justin Rose, Ludvig Aberg, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, defending champion Marco Penge and Spanish players Sergio Garcia, Eugenio Chacarra and David Puig.
