LIV Players Face DP World Tour Fines Starting Next Season

The DP World Tour is preparing to resume fining members who compete in LIV Golf League events starting next season, according to a report from The Athletic, tightening a conflicting-events rule that had been relaxed this year for players holding status on both circuits.

Why Are LIV Players Still Playing DP World Tour Events?

Hatton, McKibbin and Meronk teed it up at this week's Husqvarna British Masters because they have remained DP World Tour members under an arrangement that let them play both tours without sanction in 2026. That grace period has a clock on it: players from the LIV Golf League who are not already exempt on the DP World Tour have limited time to accumulate enough Race to Dubai points to earn status, with the regular season ending at the Genesis Championship on Oct. 25.

For LIV players without status elsewhere, the Genesis Championship is now a deadline, not just a tournament.

Who Represented LIV Teams This Week?

Hatton and McKibbin, teammates on Legion XIII, arrived at The Belfry still wearing their team's branded apparel, part of a multi-year deal the team signed with Greyson Clothiers in 2025. Meronk did the same for Cleeks GC. Patrick Reed, who left the LIV Golf League earlier this year, has also continued wearing Under Armour gear tied to a sponsorship deal the brand struck with his former team, 4Aces GC.

What's Next for LIV Golf?

LIV's Team Championship was originally scheduled for Michigan this week but was moved up to Indianapolis and played last week after funding issues, ending LIV's season earlier than planned. Hatton and McKibbin won that event by six strokes alongside captain Jon Rahm and Caleb Surratt. LIV has since secured an investor for a planned 2027 season, but which players will commit remains unclear. Next week's Omega European Masters will feature more LIV players, including Meronk, David Puig, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey and Thomas Detry.
