Neely Kight, a top-50 recruit in the 2028 class, has committed to play golf at the University of Miami, where she will join a roster that includes Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump.
Why did Kight choose Miami?
Kight, a junior at South Walton High School in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., cited the year-round weather, the facilities at Biltmore Golf Course and the coaching staff of head coach Janice Olivencia and assistant Jim Garren as the deciding factors. "I'm really excited," Kight said of the decision. Miami is coming off a 10th-place finish at last year's ACC Championship with no individual top-30 finishes, making Kight's commitment a notable addition for the program.
What has Kight accomplished so far?
As a freshman, Kight shot 78-72 to finish seventh individually at the Florida state championship and helped lead South Walton to its first state title. She followed with a 77-74 for 15th place as a sophomore. This offseason, she won the Tuscaloosa Junior Championship at 3-under 210 over three rounds, including an opening 66. Kight said she drives the ball 260 yards off the tee and has grown especially confident inside 150 yards with her 8- and 9-irons.
What's left in her high school career?
Kight has two more seasons at South Walton, where she plans to keep competing alongside friend and North Florida commit Lily Martin, who finished three shots back of the individual state title last season. The pair are aiming to return South Walton to the top of the team podium while each chases an individual title neither has won.
