PGA Tour Partners With LeBron James for 2027 Firestone Event

The PGA Tour announced Tuesday a partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation that will bring a new event to Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, James' hometown. The inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational is set for July 6-7, 2027, on the club's South Course.

What is the LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational?

The two-day event pairs professional golf with youth mentorship and fundraising. Off-course programming will connect students in the Foundation's I Promise program, which serves Akron-area students and families, with professionals who advanced through the PGA Tour's Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program. On-course competition will feature amateurs alongside those Pro-Bound Five alumni.

Pathway to Progression, first unveiled in 2023, is the Tour's initiative aimed at broadening representation in golf by investing in the development of players from historically underrepresented communities. The new Firestone event gives its Pro-Bound Five alumni a competitive stage alongside amateur players.

Why Firestone Country Club?

Firestone has a long history in professional golf, and the event returns competitive golf to the club's South Course in James' home city. "The PGA Tour believes golf can create opportunity, change lives and bring communities together," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said in a release announcing the partnership.

James said the partnership gives his Foundation a way to introduce more young people to golf while supporting both his I Promise students and golfers coming up through the Tour's development pipeline.
