Ping Ally Blue Onset Putter Pairs Eye Q Alignment, Onset Shaft

Ping has released the Ally Blue Onset putter, a mallet built around a top-rail alignment system the company calls Eye Q and a shaft design it calls Onset. The model has drawn attention partly because Wyndham Clark switched to its counterbalanced version and has since won a U.S. Open and two other PGA Tour titles.

What Is Ping's Eye Q Alignment System?

Ping's Eye Q technology centers on a single black dot on the putter's top rail against a stark white head. The company says the setup is designed to stabilize a golfer's visual focus at address, extending what sports-vision research calls "quiet eye" duration, with the aim of producing a steadier stroke under pressure.

How Does the Onset Shaft Construction Work?

The putter's defining mechanical feature is its onset shaft, which places the shaft axis ahead of the head's center of gravity rather than directly over it. Ping designed the geometry so the head is pulled through the stroke instead of pushed, a setup intended to smooth out arc and encourage a straighter path. The company built the head with a compact footprint relative to other high-MOI mallets, and it ships with a SuperStroke Pistol 2.0 grip.

Reviewers have found the Ally Blue Onset notably forgiving on off-center strikes, with speed retained well across the face despite its smaller profile than typical high-stability mallets. The bright white finish has also drawn some criticism for casting distracting shadows from the shaft in direct sunlight.
