Puig, Hatton, Harrington Miss Cut at Amgen Irish Open

David Puig, Thomas Detry and Laurie Canter all finished at two-over, one stroke outside a cut line that fell at one-over. Puig, who won his maiden DP World Tour title at last year's Australian BMW PGA Championship, opened and closed with matching 71s. Detry made an albatross at the par-5 10th in round one but could not sustain a strong start to round two, adding three bogeys coming in. Canter rallied from a bogey start on Friday with three birdies but still came up a shot short.

Thorbjorn Olesen and Nicolai Hojgaard, both multiple DP World Tour winners, finished at three-over after late back-nine bogeys on Friday undid promising starts. Thriston Lawrence, who beat Paul Casey in a playoff to win the Omega European Masters just a week earlier, also missed at three-over, closing with five straight pars when he needed a late birdie or two.

How did the biggest names fare?

Home favorite Seamus Power missed by three shots at four-over despite five birdies across two rounds. Padraig Harrington, who broke a 25-year home drought by winning the Irish Open in 2007, slid to eight-over after a rough back nine on Friday. Tyrrell Hatton, an eight-time DP World Tour winner and a two-time top-10 finisher at the majors this year, opened eight-over through round one and could not recover despite a Friday 70, missing by seven shots.

A one-shot cut line was enough to end the week for last week's DP World Tour champion and two multiple winners.

The weekend field is led by Shane Lowry, who set a Doonbeg course record with an 8-under 62 in round two to reach 11-under. Defending champion Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed and Brooks Koepka all advanced alongside first-round leader Joaquin Niemann.
