PXG's New Secret Weapon Mini Driver Gets a Thinner Face, Carbon Crown

PXG has updated its Secret Weapon mini driver, built to split the difference between a 3-wood and a full driver, with a thinner face and a redesigned carbon crown aimed at easier launch from the fairway.

What are the Secret Weapon's specs?

What changed from the previous Secret Weapon?

PXG made the face more than 4% thinner than the outgoing model and reworked the inside of the sole to support it, pushing the weight it saved out toward the edges of the clubhead. The crown also switches from a glossy finish to a lightweight matte carbon fiber, which PXG says lowers the center of gravity in the head to make the club easier to launch off the turf. The four weight ports let golfers shift the two heavier and two lighter inserts to adjust spin and shape ball flight, and the hosel is adjustable for loft and lie preferences.

Who is the mini driver built for?

PXG markets the club, part of its Lightning-derived lineup, to golfers who want more distance than a 3-wood without closing the gap to their driver, or who find a full driver's head and shaft length harder to control off the tee. Early reviewers have described it as easy to launch from the fairway and notably forgiving on strikes caught away from the center of the face, making it a fit for golfers who need to find the short grass on tighter par 4s.
