The USGA has rolled out an updated version of its GHIN handicap app, adding a redesigned stats section and a new local-competition feature called GHIN Challenges.

What's new in the GHIN app?

The update includes a revamped interface, faster score posting, improved course graphics, expanded GPS mapping and year-round performance tracking. A new stats section, modeled on the USGA's annual GHIN Rewind recap, gives golfers season-long data on scoring trends, birdies, three-putts, Handicap Index progress and hole-by-hole results, along with putting and dispersion statistics.

What is GHIN Challenges?

GHIN Challenges, built in partnership with the USGA's network of Allied Golf Associations, lets golfers compete on local leaderboards using their Handicap Index and net scores. The USGA says more than 750 challenges are already running with roughly 30,000 golfers participating.

The update turns the GHIN app from a scorekeeping tool into a season-long stats tracker with built-in local competition.
