The 51st Walker Cup will be played Sept. 5-6 at Lahinch in Ireland, the first time the historic links has hosted the biennial amateur team competition between the United States and Great Britain & Ireland.
What is the Walker Cup format?
Each of the two 10-man teams plays foursomes (alternate-shot) matches in the morning and singles in the afternoon. Saturday features eight singles matches, while all 10 players from each side compete in singles on Sunday. A win is worth a full point and a tie worth a half-point; the USA needs 13 points to retain the Cup, while GB&I needs 13.5 points to reclaim it.
How has the series gone recently?
The Americans swept Sunday singles at Cypress Point in 2025 to win 17-9, their fifth consecutive victory in the series. The USA leads the all-time Walker Cup record 40-9-1. All tickets for the 2026 event at Lahinch have already sold out.
