Angela Stanford's Solheim Cup Assistants: Creamer, Lang, McPherson

U.S. captain Angela Stanford has built her 2026 Solheim Cup leadership team around three former teammates: Paula Creamer, Brittany Lang and Kristy McPherson. All three played alongside Stanford at the 2009 Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms and will assist her this week at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands, where the 20th edition of the event begins Sept. 11.

Who are Stanford's assistant captains?

Paula Creamer, 40, is a 10-time LPGA winner and the 2010 U.S. Women's Open champion who played in her first Solheim Cup as a 19-year-old rookie in 2005. A veteran of seven Solheim Cup teams with a 17-9-5 record as a player, Creamer also served as an assistant captain for Stacy Lewis in 2024.

Kristy McPherson, 45, played on the victorious 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup team and finished runner-up at the 2009 ANA Inspiration. McPherson, now a caddie at Pelican Golf Club, was diagnosed with Still's Disease, a form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, at age 11 and played much of her LPGA career managing the condition.

Brittany Lang, 41, won the 2016 U.S. Women's Open and partnered with Stanford in two Solheim Cups as Texas teammates. A veteran of five Cups, Lang went 4-0-0 in the fourball format alongside Brittany Lincicome.

Why did Stanford choose this trio?

Stanford said she is leaning on Creamer's experience and loyalty, McPherson's energy heading into a road event, and Lang's steady presence under pressure. "There's a calming confidence to her that I love," Stanford said of Lang.

Three former teammates, one captain, and a leadership team built entirely on players who have already won together.

Stanford and her team are trying to win the Solheim Cup on foreign soil for the first time since 2015.
