Arizona State Men's Golf Hires James Hahn as Assistant Coach

Arizona State's men's golf program has hired James Hahn as a full-time assistant coach, the school announced Tuesday.

Hahn won twice on the PGA Tour across 291 career starts, earning nearly $13 million before moving into coaching. He played collegiately at California from 2000 to 2002 and said he was joining a Sun Devils program that is "one of the elite powerhouses in collegiate golf."

Hahn replaces Thomas Sutton, who left head coach Matt Thurmond's staff this summer to become head coach at Washington. Thurmond said Hahn's tour background and teaching ability should speed the development of a roster he expects to keep improving, and that he plans to have Hahn practice and play alongside the team as much as possible.

Hahn said he intends to work directly with players both on and off the course, drawing on lessons from his own professional career to support the program's development. He is set to join Thurmond's staff immediately, filling the assistant role Sutton vacated over the summer.

The hire lands as Arizona State's season is off to a strong start. The Sun Devils won the Fighting Illini Invitational this past weekend at Olympia Fields, following an opening T-6 finish at Sahalee to begin the fall schedule.
