Asian Tour Cancels 2027 Q-School After LIV Golf Funding Loss

The Asian Tour announced it will not hold a 2027 Qualifying School, calling it a "difficult decision" forced by the collapse of its partnership with LIV Golf and the end of The International Series.

Why did the Asian Tour cancel Q-School?

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund decided to stop bankrolling LIV Golf beyond this season, a move that also ended The International Series, the co-sanctioned event slate that had underpinned much of the Asian Tour's schedule. In a statement, the Tour said the second half of its 2026 season was "materially impacted," cutting playing opportunities for members including graduates of Q-School and last year's Asian Development Tour.

Asian Tour CEO Cho Minn Thant, in an earlier interview with Golf Monthly, said the tour lost about $20 million in event budget for the remainder of the year. "It's been devastating to our tour, to be quite honest," he said, while adding there were no hard feelings toward LIV Golf's leadership.

A five-year run of rising purses and deeper fields ended with an abrupt hole in the 2026 schedule.

What comes next for the Asian Tour?

The Tour said 2027 will be a "rebuilding year" focused on stabilizing and growing both the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour schedules. It marks the first season of new events co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, part of a new partnership between the Asian Tour, DP World Tour and PGA Tour. Qualifying School is expected to resume for the 2028 season.
