Blades Brown, the 19-year-old Nashville pro who turned heads as a teenage amateur, is chasing a full PGA Tour card for 2027 through two separate paths, built on a season that has mixed one of the best rounds golf has seen from a teenager with five missed cuts in eight starts.

What is PGA Tour Special Temporary Membership?

Under PGA Tour rules, a non-member who earns non-member FedExCup points equal to or greater than the total posted by the player who finished No. 150 on the prior season's points list qualifies for Special Temporary Membership. The status lifts the usual cap of seven sponsor exemptions per season, letting Brown accept unlimited exemptions into full-field events for the rest of the regular season and the FedExCup Fall. It does not grant entry into Signature Events.

How has his season gone?

Brown's standout week came at the Myrtle Beach Classic, played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, where he followed an opening 72 with a second-round 10-under 61 — tying the lowest round shot by a 16- or 17-year-old in PGA Tour history — and gained more than 3.5 strokes on approach that day alone. He finished the week tied for 26th. Across his eight starts this season, though, he has made only three cuts.

Three cuts in eight starts is why his path to 2027 runs through points, not a signature win.

What record is he chasing?

Jordan Spieth earned his PGA Tour card at 19 in 2013 by winning the John Deere Classic on a sponsor exemption. If Brown reaches the top 125 in FedExCup points purely through accumulated points rather than a win, he would join a small group of teenagers to secure full Tour status on merit before turning 20. His other option, the Korn Ferry Tour pathway through PGA Tour Q-School, remains open if the points route falls short.

Brown's amateur résumé set up the opportunity: in 2023, at age 16, he shot rounds of 64-72 at Cherry Hills to share medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur, breaking a stroke-play age record that had stood since Bobby Jones set it 103 years earlier. He turned professional at 17.
