Carlota Ciganda Says She Would 'Love' to Captain Europe

Carlota Ciganda's last home Solheim Cup produced a perfect record and, by her own description, a movie-script finish. At the 2023 matches in her native Spain, Ciganda won all four of her matches, finishing with a singles victory over Nelly Korda that helped Europe retain the trophy after a 14-14 tie at Finca Cortesin.

Ciganda started fast against Korda before hitting a shank on the 15th hole that squared the match. She rallied to win it on the 17th. Ciganda said Suzann Pettersen, then Europe's captain, met her on the 16th fairway to refocus her before the finish.

"It was good to have Suzann there," Ciganda said of the moment.

Does Ciganda want to captain Europe someday?

Now 36 and playing in her eighth Solheim Cup, Ciganda is entering the veteran stage of her career, and she said she would welcome the captaincy if her teammates wanted her in the role. She has not focused on the idea in detail but said she has taken note of what she likes and dislikes from captains she has played under, including current captain Anna Nordqvist, who is leading her first Solheim Cup after nine appearances as a player.
