Charlie Woods, a senior at the Benjamin School and the son of Tiger Woods, fell short of defending his individual title at the Palm League Championship on Monday, played at the historic 18-hole Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida. He helped his team rally for the team title instead.
Woods shot even-par 71 to place eighth overall. Andrew Tsar, an SMU commit and fellow Benjamin standout, claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 69. Benjamin, the reigning FHSAA Class 1A state champion, trailed early before rallying on the back nine, with a Woods birdie on the 18th hole helping secure the team championship.
It was a tougher path than a year ago, when Woods fired a tournament-best 5-under 66 to win the individual title and pace Benjamin to the team crown. The Palm League is an athletic conference of private and preparatory schools across southeast Florida, including Oxbridge Academy and Saint Andrew's in Palm Beach County, Pine Crest School in Broward County, and Gulliver Prep, Ransom Everglades and Miami Country Day in Miami-Dade County. Benjamin and Oxbridge have combined to win each of the past three FHSAA Class 1A state championships.
