Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has withdrawn its financial backing of women's professional golf, months after ending its funding of the LIV Golf League. Golf Saudi, the kingdom's national golf foundation, is taking over sponsorship of the fund's marquee women's event from 2027.

What Golf Saudi and the LET announced

Golf Saudi and the Ladies European Tour said Monday they have reached a multi-year agreement making The Championship, played in London, a co-sanctioned $4 million event between the LET and the LPGA Tour starting in 2027. The tournament was formerly backed by PIF under its Aramco Global Series banner. Golf Saudi operates with far smaller reserves than PIF.

The two organizations also announced a multi-year partnership tied to the LET's Order of Merit program, though financial terms of that arrangement were not disclosed.

What it could mean for the LPGA schedule

The Championship may replace the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open on the LPGA Tour calendar. That event, played in late July near the Evian Championship and the AIG Women's Open, is reportedly not on the 2027 schedule at this stage.

Golf Saudi is stepping into a sponsorship role built on a fraction of PIF's reserves.
