Orlando Tops Crump Cup Qualifying, Sets Up Bailey Match

Gregor Orlando shot an even-par 70 in Friday's second round at Pine Valley to claim medalist honors in the Open Division of the 101st Crump Memorial, setting up a first-round match-play meeting with 16th-seeded Andrew Bailey on Saturday.
Orlando, of Haverford, Pennsylvania, posted a 36-hole score of 3-over 143 in stroke-play qualifying. The Open Division draws 78 players competing for 48 match-play spots across three flights, while 21 players are contesting 16 spots in the senior division.
Bobby Massa of Dallas carded the field's only sub-par round in qualifying, a 1-under 69, to earn the second seed and a first-round match against Jeronimo Esteve of Windermere, Florida.
In the senior division, Jamie Slonis of Sewell, New Jersey, took medalist honors at 7-over 147. Slonis won the New Jersey Senior Amateur title earlier this month and will face Randy Haag of Orinda, California, in Saturday's opening match.

Pine Valley recently reclaimed the No. 1 spot on Golfweek's Best Classic Courses list, and the Crump Memorial is regarded as one of the country's premier mid-amateur events. Match play begins Saturday morning.
