Stanford called Zhang a clear pick among the final three, citing her pedigree and temperament even as her results lagged.

Zhang opened with an even-par 72, then strung together three rounds in the 60s, including a closing 68, to finish at 10 under, four shots behind winner Ruoning Yin. A sloppy bogey at the par-5 second hole Sunday was her last blemish; she played her remaining 16 holes in 5 under, with birdies at the 13th, 15th and 17th, to post her first top-five finish of the year.
