Scotty Cameron Debuts Low-Torque Phantom OC Spec III Putters

Scotty Cameron has released two limited-edition putters, the Phantom 5 OC Spec III and Phantom 11R OC Spec III, combining the brand's low-torque Onset Center construction with a blacked-out finish. Both go on pre-sale Sept. 22 and reach stores Oct. 1 at $800 each.

What makes the OC design different?

OC stands for Onset Center: the shaft enters the head slightly behind the leading edge, aligned with the putter's center of gravity. Scotty Cameron describes this as reducing, rather than eliminating, the head's tendency to rotate open and closed through the stroke. Head weights run 15 grams heavier than Cameron's standard builds, and a stiffer shaft is meant to preserve feedback at impact.

How do the two models differ?

The Phantom 5 OC Spec III keeps a compact wingback shape with a full-face Studio Carbon Steel insert and chain-link face milling for a softer sound. The Phantom 11R OC Spec III is larger and rounder with a higher moment of inertia for more forgiveness on off-center strikes, and it is the only one of the two available for left-handed golfers. Three contrasting alignment lines are cut into its blacked-out finish to help golfers set the face at address.
