Takomo Ignis D2 Driver Brings High Launch and Forgiveness at $329

Takomo, the Finnish direct-to-consumer brand that built its name on irons, is expanding its driver lineup with the Ignis D2, a $329 driver aimed at golfers who want forgiveness and easy launch without paying major-OEM prices.

What is new in the Ignis D2?

Takomo replaced the toe-and-heel weight system on its first driver, the Ignis D1, with a single rear weight port. Head of product Teemu Laine said in a technical briefing that removing those weights let Takomo push mass toward the perimeter of the head, increasing forgiveness and moving the center of gravity deeper for a higher launch. The stock 2-gram weight can be swapped for an included 8-gram weight to add swing weight and push the center of gravity even deeper.

How is the D2 built?

The driver is cast as a single piece rather than a separate face and body joined by a weld, which Takomo says preserves the alloy's spring-like response. The face has a variable thickness profile, thicker at the center and thinner around the edges and corners, intended to protect ball speed on off-center hits. The stock lie angle is more upright than many rival drivers, building in a touch of draw bias, and the hosel can add up to 1 degree more upright lie or adjust loft by 2 degrees in either direction.

Who is the Ignis D2 for?

The combination of a full-size 460cc head, deep center of gravity and forgiving face profile targets golfers whose drives tend to fly too low or fall out of the air early, while the adjustable hosel and weight give players room to fine-tune trajectory and feel.
