Trump Calls Tiger Woods' Five-Year Driving Ban 'Very Fair'

President Trump said he believes a Florida judge's five-year driving ban for Tiger Woods was fair, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis separately addressed whether Woods can still drive a golf cart.

Woods appeared in a south Florida courtroom this week and changed his plea to reckless and careless driving, after previously denying a DUI charge connected to his car accident in March. Judge Darren Steele accepted the plea, banned Woods from driving for five years, fined him $1,500, and warned that driving during the ban would send him back to jail. Woods was accompanied in court by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.

What did Trump say about the ban?

Asked about the case at the White House, Trump said he thought the outcome was fair, pointing to Woods' back problems and a prescription painkiller he said played a role. Trump, who presented Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom after his 2019 Masters victory, said Woods plans to have someone drive him going forward instead of getting behind the wheel himself.

Can Woods still drive a golf cart?

DeSantis fielded a related question at a press conference: whether Woods will still be allowed to drive a golf cart, something he may want to do at the PNC Championship later this year and in future PGA Tour Champions events.

"Tiger should be able to drive a golf cart on the golf course," DeSantis said, adding that people who lose their license typically are not barred from driving one on a course.

Woods is expected to compete on the PGA Tour Champions circuit once he is eligible, with the PNC Championship a likely stop later this year.
