Whistler Golf Club Closes for Renovation, Set to Reopen 2027

Whistler Golf Club in British Columbia has closed for a multi-million-dollar renovation that will keep the Arnold Palmer-designed course shut until a planned reopening in July 2027. The course has been a fixture of the Whistler resort area since 1983.

What is changing at Whistler Golf Club?

Thad Layton, a former architect with Arnold Palmer Course Design, is overseeing work that touches nearly every part of the property, including rebuilt tee complexes, renovated bunkers, resurfaced fairways and greens, and improved cart paths. Holes 3 and 12 are being adjusted specifically to improve visibility and safety.

"These improvements will elevate the course's playability, beauty and safety while preserving the character that has made Whistler Golf Club special for more than four decades," general manager Alan Kristmanson said.

The renovation extends to the clubhouse. Palmers Restaurant is being fully rebuilt, the clubhouse patio is being refreshed, and a new snack shack is planned near the first tee. The course and restaurant stay closed through construction, though the driving range and retail shop continue operating seasonally.

Why does the timing matter for Whistler golf?

Whistler Golf Club was left off Golfweek's Best ranking of Canada's top 25 modern courses in its coming print edition. The course joins a Whistler-area lineup that already includes Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club, Nicklaus North Golf Course and Big Sky Golf Club.

This investment will ensure Whistler Golf Club remains a premium, playable course capable of attracting golfers from around the world for decades to come.
