Broomstick Putters Keep Winning Across Pro Golf in 2026

Long, broomstick-length putters have backed winning performances on three different professional tours in 2026, more than a decade after golf's governing bodies banned anchoring the club against the body.

Which PGA Tour winners used a broomstick putter?

Akshay Bhatia is the only PGA Tour winner to use a broomstick putter this season, carrying a 44-inch Odyssey Jailbird 380 to his Arnold Palmer Invitational title. Bhatia switched to the longer putter around 2023 and has used it for all three of his PGA Tour wins since. JJ Spaun, by contrast, won the Valero Texas Open with a standard-length L.A.B Golf DF3 zero-torque model.

How has the broomstick fared on the DP World Tour?

Eugenio Chacarra has been the DP World Tour's biggest story of 2026, winning three times to lead the Race to Dubai standings entering the season's Playoffs. He opened the year with a broomstick PXG Apache Battle Ready II, winning the KLM Open and Open d'Italia with it, before switching to a standard-length TaylorMade Spider Tour S and winning the DP World India Championship. Dan Bradbury (Joburg Open, broomstick Ping PLD Oslo XL Proto) and Bernd Wiesberger (Volvo China Open, broomstick Odyssey Square 2 Square Tri-Hot Jailbird ZT) also won with long putters in hand.

The anchoring ban changed how players grip the broomstick, not whether they still reach for one.

What about the PGA Tour Champions, LPGA Tour and LIV Golf?

Two major champions have won on PGA Tour Champions with broomstick putters this year: Vijay Singh at the SAS Championship with a L.A.B Golf DF3, and Darren Clarke, alongside partner Ben Crane, at the American Family Insurance Championship with a L.A.B Golf MEZZ.1 Max.

No player has won on the LPGA Tour or LIV Golf League with a broomstick in 2026. On the LPGA Tour, Yealimi Noh finished third at the AIG Women's Open using a broomstick after winning with one in 2025, and Minjee Lee claimed her third major, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, with a standard Odyssey Jailbird putter. On LIV Golf, Sergio Garcia has recently begun experimenting with a broomstick, joining Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel, who already use the style.

What is Rule 14-1b?

Golf's governing bodies introduced Rule 14-1b in 2016, prohibiting a stroke made with the club or a hand held directly against the body, or a forearm held against the body, to anchor the club. The rule ended the anchored putting style that helped Adam Scott win the 2013 Masters, but it did not ban broomstick-length putters outright, provided the stroke is unanchored.
