Grant Forrest, Andy Sullivan and Anthony Quayle withdrew from the DP World India Championship after Thursday's opening round, as Denmark's Niklas Norgaard built an early lead at a storm-shortened event.
Forrest, who won the Open de Espana days earlier to end a run of nine missed cuts in his previous 12 starts and lock up 2027 invitations to the Masters and the Open Championship, shot a 6-over 78 before withdrawing. A DP World Tour spokesperson said the Scot pulled out because of injury, his second withdrawal from an event since August, with the DP World Tour Playoffs only weeks away.
Andy Sullivan, a four-time DP World Tour winner, shot 7-over 79 and withdrew because of illness, telling the tournament committee before he was due to tee off Friday alongside Scott Jamieson and Angel Ayora. It was Sullivan's first withdrawal since the 2024 Hero Indian Open; he finished third at DLF Golf and Country Club earlier this season.
Australia's Anthony Quayle, who has missed 16 cuts in 25 starts this season, also withdrew because of injury, according to a DP World Tour spokesperson — his first WD of the year. Quayle sits just inside the top 150 of the Race to Dubai, and only the top 100 retain full status for next season, making his health a direct threat to his playing privileges.
Norgaard's opening 66, built on an eagle and six birdies against two bogeys, led after a first round that lost roughly five hours to storms. Thursday's disruption pushed the schedule back across the board, and the tournament returns to a normal timetable Friday, when the cut will be made.
The withdrawals land at an awkward moment for Forrest in particular. His win in Madrid secured 2027 major starts and eased pressure on his card, but an untimely injury so close to the DP World Tour Playoffs raises the stakes on how quickly he recovers. For Quayle, a second half of the season already defined by missed cuts now carries the added complication of returning from injury with his status on the line.
