Cameron Kuchar, Matt Kuchar's Son, Wins First College Title

Cameron Kuchar, a TCU freshman and the son of nine-time PGA Tour winner Matt Kuchar, shared medalist honors at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday at Coldstream Country Club outside Cincinnati, firing rounds of 68-67-69 to finish at 9 under.

Kuchar tied Liberty's Michael Lugiano, a quarterfinalist at last month's U.S. Amateur, for the individual title. Memphis' Yixiang Wang finished one shot back in third. It was only Kuchar's second college start; his first came in Japan, where he tied for 30th at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament.

Kuchar is the second TCU freshman in as many seasons to win a tournament, following sophomore Nathan Miller's co-championship at last year's Watersound Invitational. Before Miller, no TCU freshman had won since Julien Brun in 2012.

TCU's team came up short in the Bearcat Invitational itself, finishing three shots behind Liberty's winning total of 15 under. Cardinal teammates Luke Libbey and U.S. Junior champion Noah Maclauchlan finished T-11 and T-14, respectively.

Matt Kuchar won six times at Georgia Tech, captured the 1997 U.S. Amateur and earned low-amateur honors at both the 1998 Masters and U.S. Open before turning pro.
