Florida Gators Golf Gets New Course, Training Facility

The University of Florida is building a new 18-hole championship golf course and training facility for its men's and women's golf teams on a 500-acre site in west Gainesville, the athletic department announced. Architects Beau Welling and Steve Smyers will design the course as part of the new Evans University of Florida Golf Club.

Who is funding the new Florida golf course?

The project follows a "transformational gift" from Consumer Cellular CEO Ed Evans. A separate donation from Power Design, a St. Petersburg-based multi-trade contractor, will fund a new performance center called the Power Design Team House. The school has not released a construction timeline but said the facility is intended to eventually host "premier collegiate, amateur and professional tournaments."

Where do the Florida Gators play golf now?

Florida's current home course, Mark Bostick Golf Course, opened in 1921 as Gainesville Country Club and was designed by Donald Ross before the university purchased it in 1963. The school said it has no plans to change how that course is used once the new facility opens.

A 500-acre standalone campus for a program already ranked No. 1 in the country signals Florida wants to keep it that way.

The investment arrives as Florida's programs are peaking. Led by Luke Poulter and Jack Turner, the men's team is rated No. 1 in Golfweek's 2026-27 preseason rankings after finishing fourth in stroke play at last spring's NCAA Championships before falling to Oklahoma State in the match-play quarterfinals. The Florida men have won five national titles, most recently in 2023. The women's team is ranked No. 7, powered by Spanish senior Paula Francisco, a contender for national player of the year.
