Hyo Joo Kim's Chip Hits Ball Marker During LOTTE Championship
By Staff Writer
Hyo Joo Kim's chip from the fringe found an unlikely obstacle during the second round of the LOTTE Championship: her playing partner's ball marker. The approach landed squarely on the coin resting on the green, sending it bouncing roughly 10 feet before settling a few feet from the pin.
What happened on the green?
Kim, a nine-time LPGA Tour winner with two victories already in 2026, was playing a short chip from the edge of the putting surface when her ball struck the marker. She dropped to her knees laughing as the shot finished close to the hole. It is unclear which hole produced the moment.
Under Rule 13.1d of the Rules of Golf, there is no penalty when a player accidentally moves a ball or ball-marker on the green. The rule requires the ball or marker to be replaced at its original spot, estimated if necessary.
How did the round turn out?
Kim hit all 14 fairways in the round but finished the tournament at two-under par, missing the cut by a single stroke. It was her second missed cut of the 2026 season, after she also failed to make the weekend at the U.S. Women's Open in June.
