Key takeaways

  • LPGA Q-School Stage II, set for Oct. 13-17 at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida, has been postponed to Nov. 1-6.
  • The club has taken on roughly 7 inches of rain in recent days and more than 50 inches since June.
  • More than 200 players were entered; the LPGA Tour is cutting $1,000 off each entrant's Q-Series fee.
  • The new dates overlap with the Ladies European Tour's $2 million Aramco China Championship.
  • Stage III, already moved up to Nov. 19-23 to dodge winter weather in Mobile, Alabama, now follows closely behind.

The LPGA Tour postponed the second stage of its Q-School on Sunday, pushing it from this week to Nov. 1-6 after rain left both courses at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida unplayable two days before the event was due to start.

Why was Q-School Stage II postponed?

The club has taken on about seven inches of rain in recent days on top of more than 50 inches since June, according to Golfweek. The result was washed-out bunkers, standing water on fairways and cart paths competitors could not use. One of the two courses had also undergone green renovations since June and remained closed to its own members, with several areas marked ground under repair for the more than 200 entrants.

Epson Tour chief business and operations officer Jody Brothers told entrants that "the golf courses are unplayable due to washed bunkers, standing water," adding the new dates would give the maintenance team time to prepare the layout.

A late postponement over course conditions is rare at this stage of Q-School, with fields already on site.

What happens next?

The LPGA Tour is cutting $1,000 off each entrant's Q-Series fee, after several players had skipped the Ladies European Tour's $2 million Aramco Korea Championship, which finished last weekend, to prepare for the Florida event instead.

The rescheduled window now runs close behind Stage III, which the Tour had already moved up to Nov. 19-23 to dodge weather that has hit Q-School's finale in Mobile, Alabama in past years. Those dates fall directly on the LET's next $2 million stop, the Aramco China Championship, leaving advancing players another conflict to navigate.
