Louis Oosthuizen has confirmed he will not join LIV Golf's planned 2027 season, becoming the latest established name to leave the team-based league days before its roster deadline on Sunday.

Why Is Oosthuizen Leaving LIV Golf?

The 2010 Open champion, playing this week at the Hong Kong Open on the Asian Tour, told the South China Morning Post he wants a lighter travel schedule than LIV's team format allows, preferring to stay near one location for stretches rather than travel for single events.

I loved LIV and the team aspect, but it's time to move on.

Who Else Has Left LIV Golf?

Oosthuizen joins Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Adrian Meronk and Cameron Smith, all of whom have confirmed exits or moved toward them in recent weeks.

Oosthuizen captains the Southern Guards, formerly Stingers GC. With him out, Branden Grace and Dean Burmester are expected to also depart, leaving Charl Schwartzel as the only teammate still deciding.

Can LIV Golf Proceed Into 2027?

LIV's finances were thrown into doubt in April, when Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it would cut funding. The league finished its 2026 season after losing two events, then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

LIV has since agreed to a deal with BC Partners worth up to $300 million, but that funding can proceed in full only if enough players commit to 2027 and beyond — a threshold that looks increasingly unlikely to be met. Schwartzel's decision, due by the end of the week, will determine whether any of the Southern Guards roster remains intact.
