No. 1 Stanford Women Finish Last at Jackson T. Stephens Cup

Stanford's women's golf team, ranked No. 1 in the preseason, finished last of six teams at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Tuesday at Fields Ranch East in Frisco, Texas, ending a run of more than six years without a finish outside the top five.

The Cardinal finished 33 shots behind winner Wake Forest, which advances to face Texas in Wednesday's match-play final. Florida State, six shots ahead of Stanford, also exits the tournament.

How did Stanford's lineup perform?

World No. 6 Meja Ortengren carried the team with a T-3 finish, but no other Stanford player cracked the top 20. Andrea Revuelta was the squad's next-best scorer, tied for 24th. Depth had been the team's biggest question entering the season despite rosters featuring two of the world's top-six amateurs.

It marks the first time under coach Anne Walker that Stanford has finished last at a stroke-play event. The program had lost to only five teams across the previous two seasons combined and has won stroke play at the NCAA Championship in each of the last six years, reaching match play in four of those and winning three national titles.
