Lexi Thompson to miss Solheim Cup for first time since 2013

Lexi Thompson will miss the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2013 after U.S. captain Angela Stanford left her off the American roster, ending an active streak that dated back to her rookie appearance at 18.

Why is Lexi Thompson missing the 2026 Solheim Cup?

Thompson, 31, played a limited schedule this year after taking time off for her spring wedding and then a hip injury in June that sidelined her for much of the summer. She returned two weeks ago in Portland and missed the cut in both starts back. Across the season she played seven LPGA events, missing the cut in five, and her only major start came at the Chevron Championship, where she tied for 12th.

Stanford had said in November that she would be crazy to leave Thompson home if she played to her ability, but told reporters last week in Canada the two were in agreement that Thompson simply hadn't played enough this year. Thompson, who is pregnant with her first child, owns a 10-10-7 career Solheim Cup record across seven prior appearances.

Could Lexi Thompson return to a future Solheim Cup team?

Stanford did not rule it out, calling Thompson a once-in-a-generation player capable of returning to the team even after starting a family.
