Lilia Vu Won't Play Solheim Cup, Heads Home for a Wedding

Lilia Vu will not get a start at the 2026 Solheim Cup and is flying out of the Netherlands on Friday to attend her best friend's wedding back in the United States.

Vu traveled with Angela Stanford's American team to Bernardus Golf as the squad's alternate but was limited to practice rounds under Solheim Cup rules, since alternates cannot compete unless called into the lineup. She has struggled with form recently, missing the cut in her last 10 LPGA individual starts, including nine of 10 during the middle of the 2025 season.

Why was an alternate on standby this week?

The alternate spot carried extra attention because of Angel Yin's health status. Yin missed two months with stomach issues before returning at the FM Championship and telling Stanford she was fit to play. Under the captain's agreement, Yin must play at least one session before Sunday singles, and the U.S. team had until the 5 p.m. opening ceremony to lock in its 12 players.

Vu clinched the winning point for the Americans two years ago; this week, her role was to be ready in case she was needed and nothing more.

Vu said she treated the week as a chance to stay sharp regardless of the outcome. "I think I just took it as a week to be adaptable and productive," she said. With her spot on the sideline confirmed, she now heads home for Saturday's wedding of former UCLA teammate Erin Choi.
